Compare countries

Choose two countries and, optionally, a food or a topic. The comparison shows legal framework, measured levels, data quality and currency side by side – and explains what can and cannot be concluded.

What does this comparison mean? – Interpretation

We label numbers as comparable with caution only if both countries report the same indicator from random or representative surveys with the same scope. Risk-based or targeted control programmes are never compared directly, because each country sets different priorities. Even with comparable designs, differences in limits, detection limits and control intensity remain possible. We do not create country rankings.

No ranking of which country is “safer” can be derived from this comparison: the data come from different programmes, years and methods, cover only some areas, and measure legal compliance rather than health risk directly.
