1. Qu'est-ce qui a été affirmé ?
Milk is equivalent to blood and therefore concentrates all hormones, pesticides and antibiotics given to the animal; dairy should be avoided for that reason.
Milk is formed in the mammary gland from components delivered by the blood, so some substances in the animal's blood can pass into milk. This is why veterinary drugs have withdrawal periods. Milk naturally contains small amounts of hormones, in the ng/mL to sub-ng/mL range (e.g. oestrone 0.13 ng/mL, IGF-1 about 4 ng/mL) (I-DRY-17). Contamination with aflatoxin M1 has been measured in Middle-Eastern milk, including Egypt (I-DRY-16).
3. Qu'est-ce qui est faux ou exagéré ?
Milk is not 'blood' or a 'blood substitute': it contains no blood cells and has a very different composition (lactose, casein, milk fat). The statement that milk carries 'every' hormone and pesticide is an over-generalisation. Detection of a substance is not the same as a harmful dose: the hormone review notes low oral bioavailability for several milk hormones (progesterone below 10%, prolactin likely digested, prostaglandins rapidly inactivated) and describes the cancer epidemiology as 'very controversial', which is weaker than its abstract suggests (I-DRY-17). The same logic would apply more strongly to butter, ghee, cream and cheese, which the system allows: fat-soluble steroids such as oestrone and progesterone were highest in butter and cream (I-DRY-17), and fat-soluble contaminants concentrate in milk fat; so the argument does not justify the system's own dividing line.
4. Qu'est-ce qui reste incertain ?
Actual residue levels in milk sold in Egypt today and the health relevance of natural milk hormones at usual intakes (I-DRY-17 is a non-systematic narrative review).
5. Quelles études l'appuient ?
I-DRY-17 (narrative review: hormones are present in milk at low concentrations; supports presence only, not harm). I-DRY-16 (aflatoxin M1 above the EU limit in pooled raw milk data of the Middle East; hazard index >1 estimated for children in several countries; Egypt estimated 0.84 for children). I-DRY-126 (organochlorine residues in 50-75% of raw milk samples in Zagazig, mostly within limits; potential cancer risk estimated for children drinking goat milk). I-DRY-118 (pesticide residues below limits in Egyptian raw milk; aflatoxin M1 above the EU limit in 7%).
6. Quelles études la contredisent ?
No study we found shows that ordinary milk delivers 'all' hormones and pesticides in harmful amounts. Large cohort and umbrella data (I-DRY-12, I-DRY-02) do not show the broad harm that such contamination would imply. In an Egyptian market survey, no raw milk sample exceeded pesticide limits and 7% exceeded the aflatoxin M1 limit, while the allowed Ras cheese also contained residues (I-DRY-118). RCTs show that milk supports bone accrual in children (I-DRY-103), and the 2026 US dietary guidelines recommend dairy for all ages (I-DRY-101).
EU legislation sets maximum residue limits for veterinary drugs and an aflatoxin M1 limit of 50 ng/kg (limit cited in I-DRY-16). Routine monitoring exists; individual exceedances are possible but are not the norm.
8. Que sait-on de l'Égypte ?
Regional and Egyptian data show measurable contamination: aflatoxin M1 in raw milk (38% prevalence, hazard index 0.18 adults and 0.84 children, I-DRY-16; 80% positive and 7% above the EU limit in a 2021 survey, I-DRY-118) and organochlorine residues mostly within limits (I-DRY-126). The same survey found residues and limit exceedances in traditional cheeses, including Ras ('romi') cheese, which the system allows (I-DRY-118). Control of residues is a legitimate public-health issue, but it is an argument for better food control and safe sourcing of all dairy, not for the claim that milk equals blood.
Basic physiology is well established (milk is secreted by mammary cells from blood-borne precursors but is not blood). Transfer of some drugs, contaminants and natural hormones into milk is documented, but the claim that milk carries 'every' hormone and pesticide at harmful levels is not supported by the residue literature we checked (narrative review, regional meta-analysis).
- Qualité de la source
Archive paraphrase without video reference; confirmed in substance by several machine transcripts.
- Transposabilité régionale
Residue levels depend on national control systems. In the EU, veterinary drug residues and aflatoxin M1 are regulated by legal maximum limits (EU AFM1 limit 50 ng/kg as cited in I-DRY-16; the legal texts themselves were not fetched). For Egypt, a Middle-East meta-analysis reports aflatoxin M1 in raw milk (I-DRY-16).
- Exceptions individuelles
People with cow's milk protein allergy or lactose malabsorption have real, individual reasons to avoid or limit milk; these are not caused by residues.

Milk is not blood; residues and natural hormones can occur in milk but are mostly within legal limits, are also present in the dairy products the system allows, and do not justify excluding milk.
Pourquoi certaines études pèsent davantage
RCT evidence on nutritional benefits and official guidelines weigh more than local residue surveys that report detection rather than harm.
Une relation de causalité est-elle établie ? Non établie No study links residue levels in ordinary milk to disease; residue surveys measure presence, and one risk estimate is model-based.
Incertitude restante
Representative Egyptian monitoring data; long-term effects of low-level mixtures.
Conclusion justifiée
The 'blood substitute' idea is physiologically wrong; residue concerns are real but are a food-control issue for all dairy, not a reason to avoid milk specifically.
Pourquoi les études semblent-elles se contredire ?
Residue surveys (I-DRY-126, I-DRY-16, I-DRY-118) and nutrition RCTs (I-DRY-103) answer different questions: the first show that contamination occurs and needs control; the second show what is lost if milk is removed. They do not contradict each other. Fat-soluble residues and steroids concentrate in fat-rich products (butter, ghee, cream), so the contamination argument cuts against the system's own allowed list.
Cela dépend-il du pays ?
- Effets biologiques généraux
- Transfer of fat-soluble contaminants and some drugs into milk is universal; withdrawal periods exist for this reason.
- Habitudes alimentaires
- Milk, laban rayeb and white cheese are affordable calcium sources in Egypt.
- Origine de l'aliment
- Raw, informally marketed milk is common in Egypt; residue risks are higher in unregulated chains (not quantified).
- Contaminants
- AFM1 and organochlorines detected in Egyptian raw milk and cheese (I-DRY-118, I-DRY-126, I-DRY-16).
- Conditions de production nationales
- Small-holder production; control capacity varies (not quantified).
- Règles juridiques
- EU and Egyptian maximum limits exist (cited in I-DRY-118; legal texts not fetched).
- Données de surveillance effectives
- No representative national monitoring data were found.
- Internal consistency of reported lead values in raw milk (mean v max v exceedance share) – Inconsistent: the 4 exceeding samples would need to average 75 mg/L, above the reported maximum 45.3; heavy-metal data not used. recalculé
- Plausibility of pooled IGF-I increase (19.89 nmol/L) – Equals about 152 ng/mL, implausibly large; direction only used. recalculé
- Harm from residues/hormones in ordinary milk
- Niveau de départ
- faible (études observationnelles)
- Raisons d'abaissement
- indirectness (detection, not outcomes)
- inconsistency
- risk of bias in surveys

Allemagne / UE
EU legislation sets maximum residue limits for veterinary drugs and an aflatoxin M1 limit of 50 ng/kg (limit cited in I-DRY-16). Routine monitoring exists; individual exceedances are possible but are not the norm.
Égypte

- Contaminants (métaux lourds, PFAS, PCB, dioxines, nitrates)
- Mycotoxines (toxines de moisissures)
- Contrôles, importations, rappels, étiquetage
